Absence from work can occur for many different reasons;

• Sickness absence
• Authorised absence such as holiday, maternity leave, study leave or attending a training course
• Absence due to family or caring responsibilities

It is important to have policies and procedures in place to deal with absences for clarity, to ensure everyone is dealt with fairly and consistently and the business can operate effectively.
