Discrimination
The Equality Act 2010 identifies nine 'protected characteristics'. It is unlawful to discriminated against anyone because they have one of these 'protected characteristics'.
Discrimination can take many forms it can be direct, indirect or present as victimisation or harassment.
Currently there is no cap on awards made in discrimination cases and employees do not need to be employed for a specific length of time to make a discrimination claim.
There are a number of steps employers can take to put in place both protection for their employees against discrimination and to protect the business if a discrimination claim is made.
